Upper Story. Lower Story. The Story. God's eternal plan (the upper story) becomes a reality in our life as he connects to us through the Word. His plan is eternal and he is at work to reveal his plan of salvation to play out for us and in our lives as we interact in his lower story - the interaction of these two realities gives reason for us to praise him for his glory!
Suffering is part of living in this world ever since sin shattered the peace we had with God. Pain, hardship, sickness and tears were never part of God's plan. God had promised peace and stability for the children of Israel as long as they followed him. Suffering and exile was a sad result of their persistent disobedience. If we are called to suffer today, may it be as a consequence of following him in an unbelieving world (like Jeremiah) and not as result of sinful idolatry.
