Our teachers would like to tell you about their classrooms...
Preschool and Kindergarten-
My goal for this year is to have each child learn that Jesus is their Savior from sin, and their personal Friend. Academically, I would like to facilitate stretching their minds to learn as many new things as possible. My goal for kindergarteners is to have them all reading by Spring.
Grades 1 and 2-
Our days are filled with learning in the different areas. We begin with our Word of God lessons where we look at the love God has shown us through the creation of the world and the Savior He sent us--Jesus, His Son. We continue our day with a mathematics cirriculum that shows us addition and subtraction facts and introduces us to various other math concepts. We strengthen our reading skills through stories we read aloud, comprehension skills work, phonics and spelling. In our English course we study sentence structures and writing skills. We have daily memory work Bible passages, weekly spelling tests and twice weekly reading stories.
Grades 3 and 4-
Our busy third and fourth grade classroom begins each day with a devotion and Christ Light lesson. This year we are focusing on the stories of the Old Testament, many of which tell of the coming Savior, Jesus Christ. The rest of the day is filled with math, spelling, english, reading, phonics, handwriting, science and social studies. Students have the opportunity to express their creative personalities through journaling, creative writing, music, and art. We cannot forget to mention the class favorite – Phy. Ed. Our room is filled with energetic and eager students who love learning new things each day
Grades 5 and 6-
In the 5th-6th grade classroom this year we will be focusing on many different topics throughout our several classes. In Christ-Light, our religion curriculum, we will be studying the New Testament and how God was faithful in keeping his promises by sending our Savior. Literature will take us into eight books, about one per month throughout the course of the school year. In Math and English, we will again dive into the important concepts that will set the stage for study in years to come. Social Studies will focus on the study of ancient civilizations in Asia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Science will take us through outer space, back to our own planet, under the earth’s surface, into the study of genetics, through scientific technologies, and to important ecological decisions in the six units of our book. Throughout all our studies, we will continue to be reminded how our Lord created this wonderful earth, guides us daily through life, and will one day take us to eternal life with him in heaven. May God bless our school year.
Grades 7 and 8-
In the seventh and eighth grades here at Cross of Christ, we strive to educate the children with what they will need for the future years. With the kids in these classes so close to high school, my aim is to prepare them for what they will see in high school at the academic level, social level, and also the spiritual level. These children need to know the dangers they will be encountering in the future and how to counter those dangers and temptations. We have a solid religion curriculum with the focus being on God and what He has done for us, as well as math, language arts, science, social studies, and literature. My goal for the year is to prepare my children for their futures, to be successful in everything they accomplish, and to strive to do everything to God’s glory.
